Brighton Conference could undermine Strasbourg Human Rights Court

A draft Declaration due to be discussed at a European conference in the UK city of Brighton on 19 and 20 April could weaken the European Court of Human Rights, according to a wide ranging group of human rights NGOs and lawyers.

These concerns are detailed in an opinion piece by Michael Farrell (Senior Solicitor at FLAC and Member of European Commission Against Racism and Intolerance (ECRI)), a copy of the draft Brighton Declaration, the Preliminary Opinion of the Strasbourg Court, an Open Society Justice Initiative sponsored statement and a joint NGO input to the negotiations.
